A Smooth Move Starts with Good Preparation

To help your move go as smoothly as possible, it’s important to understand what you’ll need to take care of before moving day. While our team will do everything we can to make your experience stress-free, a little planning on your part goes a long way. Below you’ll find helpful guidance to keep things organised, avoid delays, and ensure everything runs to plan.

1. What You’ll Need to Do Before Your Move

Separate What’s Staying and What’s Going

Make sure it’s clear which items are being moved, what’s staying in the property, and what’s being disposed of. This helps our crew load efficiently and avoid any confusion.

Keep Keys and Important Items Safe

Put all house, car, garage, and shed keys in a safe place where they won’t get packed by mistake. Keep any valuable or essential items (medication, passports, jewellery) with you during the move.

Complete Packing in Advance (Unless We’re Doing It)

If you’re packing yourself, please have everything ready before our crew arrives. Label each box clearly with the room it’s going to at your new address, and make sure bottle tops and jars are tightly sealed. Let us know if you need more boxes in advance.

Organise a Kitchen Essentials Zone

Set aside basics like a kettle, mugs, cutlery, plates, and cleaning items in one place for use during the move. If we’re packing for you, it’s still helpful to separate these items out beforehand.

Plan for Bedrooms and Overnight Needs

Pack a separate overnight bag and keep it in the car or bathroom so it’s not accidentally loaded. Include clothes, toiletries, chargers, and any items you’ll need immediately.

Clear Out the Loft Safely

For health and safety reasons, we can’t access lofts unless they are fully boarded, have a fixed ladder and lighting. Please bring down any items in advance.

Disconnect Appliances in Advance

You are responsible for safely disconnecting electrical or plumbed-in appliances before moving day, including washing machines, dishwashers, fridges, cookers, and TVs. Our crews are not insured to handle these disconnections.

Fridges & Freezers

Fridges and freezers should be defrosted at least 24 hours before the move. We recommend using up food beforehand. If anything remains, place it in clearly marked plastic bags.

Dismantling Items

Beds, cots, wardrobes, garden furniture, sheds, and shelving should be dismantled before the crew arrives — unless agreed otherwise. Curtains, mirrors, and pictures should also be taken down in advance.

Prohibited Items

We cannot move hazardous or flammable items, including gas bottles, petrol, paint, thinners, fireworks, firearms, or any corrosive substances. Fuel must be emptied from items like lawnmowers and strimmers.

Children & Pets

To keep everyone safe, it’s best to arrange for young children and pets to be out of the way during the move. If you’re moving a cat or dog, secure them in a quiet room or safe space before our crew arrives.Key

2. Access, Parking, and Timing

Parking at Both Properties

Please arrange suitable parking for our van at both your current and new address. Our vehicle takes up the space of approximately four cars. If access is restricted, let us know in advance — we may need to organise a smaller shuttle van at extra cost.

Waiting Time Charges

We expect to begin unloading as soon as we arrive. If there’s a delay getting keys or access to your new home, waiting time is charged at £60 + VAT per hour. You can avoid this risk by choosing our optional “waiting time waiver” — just ask for details.

3. Other Key Points to Note

Unwanted Items

Our crews are not allowed to dispose of unwanted items. Please arrange removal or donation of anything not going with you.

Payment

All moves must be paid in full no later than 7 days before the move. We accept bank transfer, debit card, and credit cards (credit card payments incur a 3% fee). Cheques must be received at least 14 days before your moving date.

Cancellation or Postponement

If you cancel or postpone your move after booking, charges will apply:
5 working days' notice: 60% of the removal charge
Less than 24 hours: 90% of the removal charge
You can avoid these charges by selecting our “cancellation waiver fee” in advance.

Final Check

Before we leave, please make sure everything has been packed and removed — including items from drawers, cupboards, lofts, sheds, garages and outbuildings. Anything left behind may result in extra charges.
